Ratina Z was undoubtedly one of the best Jumping horses that ever lived.
Won olympic team gold & individual silver Barcelona 92, & team gold Atlanta 96. Team gold and individual at the WEG Haag 1994.
Team & individual gold at the European championship in 97 Mannheim.
Ratina Z was born in the stables of Zangersheide in 1982. Before she ended up under the saddle of Ludger Beerbaum, she was active under the saddle of Piet Raijmakers. He won the gold team medal with the mare during the 1992 Olympics, before she moved to the stables of Ludger Beerbaum.
Both athletes had to be at their brilliant best to get the most out of this Hannoverian mare, whose temperamental character made her difficult to control but perhaps set her apart from the rest of the field.

Ratina was undoubtedly a free spirit. Beerbaum said: "Ratina went against all human laws, she was exceptional, very talented, no other horse could ever be at her level." “She had a special character. She wasn't easy to handle and had her own head - it took us a long, long time till we understood each other!”
Raijmakers said he was glad that he was already in his thirties when he started working with her as she was not an easy partner. “She was a loose cannon, but through my experience I could get her energy in the right direction and she became the best horse in the world,” he said. “If Ratina would have come in my life when I was for instance twenty years old, things might have gone very differently.”
She was also described as “a true championship horse, with a heart of gold and springs under her hooves.”
Ratina herself died in 2010 but there are four clones that I know about Ratina Gamma Z, Ratina Beta Z, Ratina Alpha Z, all born in 2009 and Ratina Delta Z born in 2015 I'm not sure about the first three but Ratina Delta is competing at International Showjumping 1.45m level with Belgium rider Niels BRUYNSEELS
