Great Broodmares: Shauna

Shauna's stallion sons did not make any major contribution to performance breeding. .
Diamonds are Trumps who produced two of them was a well known sire in his own right. He was a daughter of Kildalton Countess by King of Diamonds He stood at Slyguff Stud and became a successful producer of showjumpers.

Ireland's Pride who produced Shauna's Pride was a 1977 son of King of Diamonds out of Tullagh Ireland's Glory by Merrion. Ireland's Pride was bred and msned by Timothy Carey, Co Westmeath.

Shauna, however, bred performance. She produced the Grade A showjumpcr Drumaire by Imperius had 334 SJAI points This mare was ossned by Pat O'Connor, Co Dublin. Imperius undoubtedly made a major contribution here. A noted producer of showjutnping performance he stood at Slyguff Stud.lle was a thoroughbred and the sire of Master Imp.

The stallion Shauna's Pride had a limited showjumping exposure and collected 46 SJAI points.

Shauna bred eight foals for Michael Gavin.

Shauna was a mare who showed a lot of promise. The fact that she produced three stallion sons is an indication of her quality and the esteem in which she was held.

That her stallions were only average in terms of their contribution to the breeding scene may have been due to their individual environment rather than to any short comings on Shauna's part.

King of Diamonds played a huge part in Irish Draught breeding and continues to exercise an influence. Michael Gavin was right to send her to to his descendant sires.

Diamonds are Trumps in particular was a succesful sire. He also produced Golden Trump who in turn became a noted producer in County Wexford.
